Monarch Wants Return Of N60 Bride Price After 17 Yrs Marriage

The Eze Ndigbo of Yaba, Lagos State, His Royal Highness, Eze Samuel Ezekwo has sued his estranged wife, Lolo Chizoba Ezekwo and his father in-law, Levi Azubuike before the Customary Court of Aguata sitting in Igboukwu, demanding a refund of the sum of N60 (Sixty Naira) which he paid as bride price 17 years ago.

Eze Ezekwo, in a divorce suit, he filed at the court, stated that he was seeking the dissolution of his 17-years-old marriage  because his estranged wife, Chizoba, a banker, had desecrated his throne by absconding from his home and joining her lover whom he named as one Lawrence Umeakuka. The monarch asked the court to dissolve the marriage and hand over the custody of the children to him until they attain the legal age of 18.
The matter, which came up for hearing last Thursday, was adjourned till December 11, 2012, with Ezekwo praying the court president, Barrister Chinelo Egili to ensure speedy judgment as the marriage had collapsed.
He said: “My wife now junkets from one beer parlour to the other in Lagos with men, and she no longer comes home. I once confronted her in a beer parlour with a man, Lawrence Umeakuka, whom I learnt she now stays with, and she told me she was there to recover loans for her bank from the beer parlour owner”.

He continued further saying, “Severally, I have called the attention of her bank to ask if they now send my wife at night to recover loans from hotels and beer parlour owners and found it to be lies.”   The first respondent, Chizoba and her father, Azubuike, the second respondent, were absent at the court session, but were represented by a counsel.
