An occupant of a Mazda car died on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway when a container on the back of a trailer fell on their vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the car and the trailer with number plate NJ339 ARB were both heading towards Badagry on high speed when the incident occurred.
Austin Akhigbe, who witnessed the accident, said both vehicles were trying to navigate a pothole on the road while on high speed. But as the car tried to speed past, the container fell on it and crushed the passenger.
“There were five passengers in car but only one of them died,” he said.
According to Akhigbe, the driver told officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority at the scene that they were coming from Ibadan and heading to Seme, Benin Republic to trade.
Commander of the Iba/Volks Unit, Mr. Segun Aladenika, who confirmed the incident, said the incident occurred at Iyana Ishashi area of the expressway.
“FRSC officials were able to remove the victims without any problem. But the occupants of the car insisted on taking the body of the dead man away. We later cleared off the road for easy flow of traffic,” Aladenika said.
