A vigilante known as Donga Security has arrested six armed robbery suspects in two separate operations in Toro local government area of Bauchi State at the weekend.
Parading the suspects in their office in Magama Gumau village, Chairman of the vigilante group Alhaji Shehu Musa said they received information that armed robbers had invaded Globacom masts and took away a power generator.
Musa said they were arrested with a vehicle they used for conveying the generator and “we also succeeded in arresting four cattle rustlers following a tip of from good Samaritans”.
The first two suspects gave their names as Obina Ezegwu, 26 years and Uche Okor, 30 years all from Anambra State living in Jos, Plateau State. The confessed that they stole the generator in Katsinawa village and intended to sell it in Jos through their accomplices, he said.
Musa also said they claimed responsibility of stealing several generators belonging to GSM companies in Kaduna, Plateau and Bauchi states. A security man guarding the premises of Glo mast, Mallam Ibrahim Mato, said the suspects invaded their premises around 2am and forced him to lie down or risk his life. He said after complying with their order, they hurriedly dismantled the generator, but they did not see my colleague who called the vigilante group that arrested them.
Police Public Relations Officer for Bauchi police command DSP Abbas Abdullahi said he did not receive the information as at the time of filing this report. But a top security source in Bauchi confirmed the arrest of two suspects that stole the generator.
